Praia da Rocha

Praia da Rocha is one of the most beautiful and most visited beaches in the Algarve.

It sits on the coast of Portimão. Right beside the mouth of the Arade river and the Portimão marina.

A short walk away you'll find other beaches worth a visit: Praia dos Careanos, Praia do Vau and Praia do Barranco das Canas.

What to see at Praia da Rocha

The sands at Praia da Rocha are fairly extensive, and in summer hundreds of holidaymakers spread out here.

Beyond its good looks, plenty of people come for the sheer variety of bars, restaurants and even a casino, which keep the area lively day and night.

The water here is clear and calm, perfect for all ages, and there are sports facilities for basketball, football and volleyball.

At the eastern end of the beach stands the  Forte de Santa Catarina , from where you can look out along the whole length of Praia da Rocha.

Getting to Praia da Rocha

Praia da Rocha has several access points. The one at the western end involves a steep flight of steps, but there are easier ways down, including a ramp that is suitable for disabled visitors.

There's also a wooden walkway running the full length of the beach, which makes it suitable for families with a pushchair or for wheelchair users.
